Wonderful Web Whirlwind

Quiz Day! Just that for which you so longingly longed.
Here's the skinny:
  1. First we will achieve a functional XAMPP system for those of you who did not have flash drives on Thursday. Well, we'll kick off the installs, in any case.
  2. While the XAMPP stragglers are doing their best to catch up - the installs can take a while - we will all have a group quiz that will summarize our first week of class.
  3. The quiz questions are hidden, actually. You have to find them. Please visit the latest blog post, which will appear above this one (Jan 21st, 2011), to find the link to the quiz.

A Bare Minimum Web Page, ETC.

Gents,
Yesterday we learned...
a) to use "View Source" to check the source code of an existing web page.
b) to write the bare minimum code to compose a web page in HTML.

Today we will be
a) installing XAMPP on your flash drives
b) learning how to start and stop the web server
c) learning how to put pages in the correct display directory
d) continuing our coding adventure with COMMENTS, DOCTYPE, NAMESPACE, ENCODING
e) viewing the class website (websitesthatwork.sehsapps.net)
f) validating code using the W3C markup validator

Onward with XAMPP!

We will be using the XAMPP Testing environment to test our sites after break. I haved decided to go with XAMPP after having too much trouble with the Windows testing environment.
